Small Fire Disrupts Assisted Living Home
Friday, Dec 19, 2008 @07:30am CST
(Branson, MO) -- Residents of an assisted living facility were startled awake early today by the sound of a fire alarm.
Branson firefighters say the alarm went off shortly before 3:00 am today at the Culpepper Place Senior Living Facility on Gretna Road. When firefighters got there, they found water coming from under the door of one of the resident rooms.
The 90 year old woman living there was sound asleep, as a fire sprinkler was going off in her room.
Branson Fire Division Chief Ted Martin says a small fire in the woman's couch touched off the sprinkler system and alarm.
The fire was in a very small area of the couch and was quickly extinguished. The woman was moved to another open room. None of the other residents in the facility were affected.
"If ever proof was needed that automatic fire sprinklers say lives, it was realized here in Branson today as this resident was alseep, in her home, at night when the fire broke out," said Martin.
Martin said everything designed into the city's fire codes worked to keep the fire from becoming a deadly event.
