Benefits for Designers and Builders
One of the most often ignored benefits of sprinklers is the additional flexibility which this equipment provides to designers and building owners.

Installing automatic sprinklers to a defined set of sprinkler design rules may allow reduction in compartment fire rating, increase fire escape travel distances and reduce the number of fire-fighting shafts required. Sprinklers installed within storage racks (pallet, drive-in, automated, post pallet, slatted shelving) ensures a quick response and suppression or control of fires within storage racks. In some racking warehouses clients prefer the flexibility of not having sprinkler piping installed within storage racks, in these cases the addition of an ESFR sprinkler systems installed only at roof level may be the preferred solution. These systems are designed with quick response sprinkler that operate early in a fire situation to suppress a fire.

If you want to see these systems in operation there are many examples of fire tests of ESFR sprinkler and in-rack sprinklers to be found online by searching ‘ESFR Sprinkler tests’ or ‘in-rack storage fire tests’.

Fire Fighting Foam can be added to the sprinkler water discharge to suppress fires in premises where flammable liquids are stored. This addition quickly controls and suppresses fire in these high challenge situations.
