Which course is for me?

summary

This blended learning programme covers knowledge of the fire sprinkler industry, buildings, communication, H&S, maintaining compliance and dealing with the non-compliance, installation (residential and commercial) and final handover procedures.

eligibility
  1. You must be aged 18+ and working in the fire sprinkler industry, with at least 3 years installer experience.
  2. You will need access to fire sprinkler systems.
  3. With this qualification encompassing both residential and commercial fire sprinkler installations training providers expect the candidate to have experience in both types of systems, demonstrated within the BAFSA evidence of prior learning record book.
Industry SKILLcard

This qualification is part of the requirement for the Industry Skillcard – Blue Skilled Worker Card

format

No Fixed Start or Term Dates – Flexible, Rolling Programme. No attendance at a training centre is required. Enrolment can be made at any time, but the course must be completed within six months of enrolment.

This course covers: Zoning of Systems; Water Supplies (Multistage pumps); Alarms; Hydraulic Calculation for High Rise Buildings

The candidates must have the following.

A good internet connection

A quiet space is preferred and not in a busy office where background noise affects the other candidates.

A camera so we can see the candidate for the duration of the course.

An electronic workbook is provided which the candidates will need to print out in order to carry out written exercises.

An up to date set of LPC Rules Inc BS EN12845

Remote learning (held online as a virtual classroom where the candidate will be invited via Microsoft Teams)

This course follows on from the basic and intermediate design courses and covers sprinkler designs which use the fully hydraulically calculated (FHC) method of pipe sizing and water supply selection.

This course relates to the classification of Sprinkler systems and the design of pre-calculated commercial fire sprinkler systems in accordance with the LPC Rules inc BS EN 12845. However, in order to deliver the learning outcomes, the course aim is to address the knowledge and skills required to determine the sprinkler design in relation to; the classifications, storage configurations, storage heights, system requirements, head spacing, pipework sizing and water supply configurations.

The Course Will Benefit from a National Award and Also Help Towards a Black Managers CSCS Card.

Experienced Worker Route (EWR)

Candidates shall have the following before they can be entered onto the course:
• 3 years fire sprinkler design experience in pre calculated systems
• The Candidate shall have designed at least 2 pumphouses

New Entrants Route

Candidates shall have minimum criteria the following before they can be entered onto the course:
• Engineering HNC or
• 6 Standard grade of which they must have Maths, English, Science (any) or
• 1 years’ experience in fire sprinkler design.(backed up by a reference and CV).

2 days a week starting 27th of August and running through to the 31st of October 2024 (dates listed in the booking information page)

This course relates to the Inspection, Commissioning of Commercial Fire Sprinkler Systems design in accordance with the LPC Rules inc BS EN 12845. However, in order to deliver the learning outcomes designed into the course, the course aim is to address the knowledge and skills required to determine the sprinkler design in relation to; the storage configurations, inspection of the system during and at the end of the installation, the commissioning of the system and an understanding of the required ongoing maintenance of the system.

To apply for this course:

  • An application from will need to be completed
  • A full CV should be issued with the application form
  • A reference will need to be provided

Please note the Inspection and commissioning course requires a minimum of 3 years industry experience before a full certificate can be issued (depending on the outcome of the exam and assessments), Attendance certificates shall be issued to people with less than 3 years.
