Sheffield care homes now protect almost 200 residents with sprinklers

Nearly 200 residents in three Sheffield care homes are now safer from fire, thanks to a partnership between South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue (SYFR) and Sheffcare.
Sprinkler systems have been installed at Knowle Hill, Valley Wood, and Grange Crescent care homes. This was made possible through match funding from SYFR’s Stronger Safer Communities Reserve, a Fire Authority initiative that reinvests funds into local communities to help prevent serious fire emergencies.
The scheme enables charities and community groups across South Yorkshire to reduce fire-related deaths, injuries, and property damage.
Roger Brason, SYFR's Sprinkler Advocate and BAFSA Council member said: “We’re proud to have supported Sheffcare in fitting sprinklers at these care homes. Resident safety was our top priority throughout, and we made sure the installation didn’t disrupt their routines. Care homes are vital community hubs, and they deserve the highest level of fire protection.”
John Dawson, Sheffcare’s Health and Safety Manager, adds, “Having sprinklers gives us peace of mind we never had before. As a not-for-profit organisation, this wouldn't have been possible without SYFR's funding. It’s the most effective fire safety measure we can implement. The installation went smoothly, and our homes are now significantly safer for our vulnerable residents.”
