An increasing number of automatic fire suppression systems are being installed tall residential and multi occupancy buildings. They are being installed for a number of reasons:

• To address shortcomings in other fire protection measures
• To enhance the protection of all residents
• To safeguard fire and rescue personnel
• In the conversion and refurbishment of buildings to a new use (ie offices to residential flats)
• To permit relaxation of building regulations requirements (ie open plan flats, loft conversions)
• To reduce the cost of the impact of fire to occupiers and building owners
• As a community resilience measure
• The life long cost effectiveness of sprinkler and water mist systems

Delegates attending this seminar will increase their understanding of:
Considerations when undertaking retrofit of automatic fire suppression
Water supplies
System design and installation
Standards for installation
Types of systems
Conversion, Refurbishment and Relaxation of Building Regulations Requirements
Enhancement of fire protection

All of the presentations will be delivered by fire safety experts and members of DWFRS who will examine the factors to take into account when considering the benefits and potential to retrofit a suppression system.

There are a number of reasons for reducing fire incidents and losses attributable to fires in tall buildings…With the ever-increasing awareness of the impact on the environment of the products of combustion and of contaminated firefighting water, a reduction of any kind would be beneficial.

There will also be several case studies illustrating where sprinklers have suppressed fires saving lives, property and investments.
