National Occupational Standards

NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL STANDARDS
National Occupational Standards (NOS) are used to define the knowledge and understanding required for a role or task and may be used as the basis for vocational qualifications.

The NOS for Mechanical Fire Protection were originally developed in 2011 following a request from the sector. Since then the NOS have been reviewed and updated twice in 2014 and more recently at the beginning of 2022. BAFSA is pleased to have provided input into Steering and Working Groups and members have actively participated in wider consultation.

The reviewed NOS were approved by the NOS Regulator on 11th March 2022.

NOS are grouped together to reflect a particular role. This means that a candidate not only can claim to have achieved the knowledge and understanding but can also demonstrate workplace competence.

The NOS therefore underpin the permformance and knowledge required within the L2 Certificate in Fire Sprinkler Installation.

The NOS are freely available from ukstandards.or.uk or by request to BAFSA.(qualifications@bafsa.org.uk)
