Within the first two weeks of March, automatic sprinklers have actuated controlling fires in a shoe factory and a shop in an out of town retail park thus yet again illustrating the effectiveness of sprinklers to protect businesses and communities from fire whilst safeguarding firefighters when attending an incident.

In Leicester on 2nd March Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service attended a in a retail park unit. On arrival crews found smoke percolating from a ground floor storeroom where, upon entry, firefighters observed the activation of the sprinkler system which had assisted in containing, controlling the fire. It was established that the seat of the fire involved a white goods refrigeration unit activating one sprinkler head.

Fire/smoke, damage was contained to the room of origin and no injuries were reported.

On 14th March Cleveland Fire Brigade attended a fire in a footwear factory. Crews identified a fire within plant machinery used to preheat glue which had been contained/controlled by the activation of one pendant sprinkler head located just offset to the plant. The cause of the fire was suspected to be thermostat failure machinery. Smoke/fire damage was contained to an area of 10-15m²
